There are many analogies between construction in the physical world (such as building houses and office buildings) and the construction of websites and software. You can only imagine how horrendous things would be if major structures in the physical world were started without a clear understanding of the destination (Such as digging a foundation when you haven't even decided what the building that will sit atop the foundation will look like...), or "just hammering a few things together to see if you like the looks of it" (No, you really shouldn't build a house or building full-scale just to see if you like how it looks...), or trying to make major additions to your building when you're not even sure where your sewage pipes and electrical circuitry start out from or end up (What are you going to do, tear out all the walls to find them?).
